BIKE UPGRADE: THE HEADLIGHT MASK

The concept of Headlight Masks is fairly new to me. Since I do not do any research before writing my articles, I cannot exactly give you a concise history of this amazing idea; where and when it was started. However, it is 200% badass! I stumbled upon a picture of a streetfighter-style bike with a headlight mask posted on Instagram by user @doctorhelmet. Apparently, he designs and sells them too.

The headlight mask is basically similar to a regular face mask, (maybe for Halloween) with the eye holes big enough to let through enough light from the headlight bulbs. The masks come in many forms. There are some modelled as skulls, animals, predator and so on.

The mask is not factory-fitted by the manufacturer but a custom feature which replaces the usual drab-looking headlights most bikes come with. Motorcycles I have seen carrying these masks are usually streetfighter-style bikes. The reason for this is because the headlights of these bikes are loosely fitted and can be easily replaced without making any significant changes to other parts of the bike’s body. I have not seen the mask on regular sport bikes. I presume the reason for this is that putting a mask will require entirely eliminating the front fairings, which we can agree would not be a very pretty sight.

All the same, it is a remarkable upgrade to a motorcycle, which is guaranteed to turn heads and ensure you stand out among the zillion Nigerian bikers. These masks are usually priced between $80 and $200 on eBay.
