EXPERIENCES FROM THE 2015 CALABAR CARNIVAL

Pictures I took from the 2015 Calabar Carnival. Some were pulled from www.socialprefect.net. So some credit to her. Could not take so many pictures because I spent a good amount of time riding.

The journey to Calabar was smooth most of the way. Smooth is an exaggeration anyway, I meant to say without incident. On 25th December, my brother and I had packed our bags and were eagerly looking forward to the journey. We planned to leave Owerri by 6am. On the 26th morning, we departed by 9am. There were two reasons for this.

First reason is that we spent a good amount of the previous night talking about the trip and ended up not sleeping early. When I say "talking", I mean all the details about the trip. How fast we will ride, where we will stop, where my brother intends to pop wheelies to impress bystanders, how we will wear our kit, what kit we will wear, which helmets to use and so on. Yes, strangely enough, talking about and looking forward to the trip is actually more exciting than the trip itself.

Second reason is that we spent more than an hour trying to strap down my predator helmet to my bike. It just could not stay down tight. We eventually figured it out, filled up our tanks and hit the road.

We stopped in Umuahia to wait for a friend Kachi who rode with us to Calabar. Back to the journey! I initially said it was smooth. I take that back! The roads were terrible. The Federal Govt needs to declare an emergency on that road.

All the bikers were put in the Tinapa Hotel sponsored by the state government. It was a nice gesture by the governor. On the 27th, the biker's carnival took place. Over 200 bikers were present. The governor rode in on a nice tricycle. My predator helmet and my brother's skull helmet caused quite a lot of "problems". A lot of people were asking to take pictures with us. While I was taking selfies with everyone, my brother was more concerned about impressing the crowd with his wheelies. I too popped a few frog-jump wheelies here and there. Lol!

At night, there was a bonfire where there was a lot of booze, food and babes! The street band carnival was held on the 28th. I did not get to see the action so much because the crowd was restricting our view. We found a small bar by the road, and we sat there to watch the bands pass by.

29th was spent exploring Calabar. Visited the bushmeat joints in Atimbo, the Marina Resort and some place the called "Island" across the river from Marina Resort. I met a six year old child that had a pet crocodile at the Island. To touch the crocodile and take a picture with it, I paid 100 naira.

I could not take a lot of pictures because I was in the action. Click to enlarge image..
