A TRIUMPHANT TRANSFORMATION

After using my 2012 Yamaha R6 for two years, I decided to let her go. I was tired of bending over on a bike with terrible ergonomics for long rides. The only reason I had not sold it earlier was the speed. That too, I grew tired of over time. It could only muster a paltry 250 km/h, which started to feel like doing 120 km/h in my car. I eventually sold it.

I knew I needed a motorcycle with three major features. An upright riding position, speed and a short wheelbase (distance between front and rear wheel). A short wheelbase allows for better handling, at least that is what I believe

I did some research and came up with two candidates. The first choice was the Kawasaki Z1000 and next choice was the Triumph Speed Triple. The former was hard to come by in Nigeria for cheap, so I settled for the latter.

I got a nice deal for a 2007 Speed Triple. I was told it was not in the best condition. My type of bike! Buy a bike almost scrapped and turn it into a beautiful monster. I bought the bike for fairly cheap and it did not take long for me to realize why we Nigerians run away from the British manufactured motorcycle. It developed an electrical issue few days before it was to be delivered to me. This electrical issues which affected the Crank Position Sensor went on to spread to many other electrical issues.

After a few months of purchasing several parts and getting the runaround by the electrician in Lagos, the bike roared back to life. While in the electrician, more body damage was done to her. On getting delivered to me, the mirrors, horn and signal lights were missing. The paint was scratched badly and a lot of wiring was hanging out of nowhere.

To cut the story short, I want you to see the amazing make over she got. I personally did most of the work. You have to agree that the paint job makes her look like a bike fresh off the ducati production line. The matte black paint job was done in my hometown for about 10,000 naira.

I will write a review after using the bike for some time. But from what I have experienced so far, I am speechless! The Speed Triple is one powerful motorcycle!
